Refuwe Thubela holds a BCom Law and LLB degree and is currently pursuing an LLM in Corporate Law at the University of South Africa (UNISA). He has also completed a Directorship Programme through the Directors Association, pursuant to which he was awarded the Professional Director (PD) SA designation.

 

Refuwe advises corporates, entrepreneurs, government entities, and various institutions on complex commercial transactions, regulatory compliance, dispute resolution and litigation, corporate governance, and other niche and specialised legal matters across different sectors.

 

His practice spans corporate and commercial law, property law, public law, intellectual property law, environmental and sustainability regulation, construction and infrastructure projects, as well as mining, energy, oil and gas law and regulation.

 

Refuwe has served on the boards of several companies operating across diverse sectors, including K Ndu Mining Solutions (Pty) Ltd (mining), Lubo Mortgage Solutions (Pty) Ltd (financial services and insurance), and Lawyers for the Arts South Africa NPC (entertainment and creative industries).

 

He was recognised as one of the Mail & Guardian 200 Young South Africans (2025) in the Justice category and is a frequent industry speaker, media commentator, and legal analyst. Refuwe leads the firm with a practical, commercially focused, and solutions-driven approach.

NOKUTHULA  KHUMALO

Nokuthula Khumalo is an admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa with over 30 years’ experience as a corporate lawyer in the public sector. She has extensive expertise in corporate governance, litigation, international contract management, and public policy.

She holds a B Proc degree from the University of Natal (UKZN) and an LLM from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. Her professional development includes a Certificate in Environmental Impact Assessment, Executive Education from INSEAD (France), the Women Acceleration Programme at GIBS, specialised training in Pension Funds Regulation through the Financial Sector Conduct Authority, and Public Policy Analysis from the London School of Economics.

Nokuthula began her career in community development before joining a power utility, where she spent nine years specialising in international supply contracts and power purchase agreements. She later served in the South African Government, holding senior leadership roles in the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs as Deputy Chief of Staff and Chief of Staff, respectively.

For the past 14 years, she has worked in the transport and logistics sector, serving in various senior leadership positions. She currently holds the position of Head of Department for the Board Chairperson and the Group Chief Executive Office within the logistics environment.

She also serves as Chairperson of the South African Women Lawyers Association (Gauteng).

In the public sector, Nokuthula Khumalo has been appointed as a Trustee and Chairperson of a Retirement Fund (June 2025), serves as a Defined Benefit Fund Trustee, and is a Bid Committee Member.
